If you’re considering booking a pregnancy photoshoot with us this year then, naturally, you might wonder what clothes you should wear for the session.
In this article, I’m showing examples of what women have previously worn in their pregnancy portraits.
Plus, I’ll be sharing tips on what clothing to wear and how to style your photoshoot if other members of the family are to be involved.
Capturing your pregnancy in beautiful professional photos
A pregnancy photoshoot is a chance to enjoy some well-deserved time focusing on you and your baby. You’ll experience a professional photoshoot in my photography studio here in Kingswells, Aberdeen.
All our maternity sessions are held indoors and are available all year round.
Many women choose to book a maternity session with me so that they have a photographic record of this special time. The portraits can preserve the memory of your pregnancy, and will no doubt be enjoyed by you and your family both now and in the future.

What should you wear during your pregnancy photoshoot?
1. Your favourite maternity outfits
Although I have a collection of beautiful maternity gowns myself, I encourage you to bring your own outfit as well. That’s because it’s always nice to create some more informal portraits and show off your unique style.
This is your chance to wear any favourite everyday maternity outfits you might have bought during your pregnancy. Jeans and casual shirts are perfectly fine and are just as welcome as more formal maternity dresses, should you have any.
2. Maternity gowns from my collection
I have a range of flattering full-length pregnancy dresses, perfect for your maternity photoshoot, in a range of colours and designs. You are very welcome to choose from these and wear your favourites during your session.
As these pictures show, they look amazing on all women!
Will you choose tight or loose-fitting outfits?
Whether you want your maternity outfits to be tight fitting to fully emphasise your beautiful bump, or something more loose-fitting, it’s entirely up to you! We can always do a bit of both.
Even if you are wearing a floaty gown, the careful placement of your hands around your baby bump can emphasise your curves. I will guide you on the posing though, so there’s no need to worry too much about that!
Couples pregnancy photos with your family
Couple pregnancy photos are very popular among my clients. So, yes, husbands and partners can get in on the fun too!
Also, if you already have a child or several children and would like to involve them in your pregnancy photoshoot as well, then please do bring them along. I love photographing the whole family as part of the shoot!

Pregnancy photos with your family
In terms of outfits, you might want to consider a coordinated look so that what your son or daughter and husband is wearing complements your own.
Women with young daughters have in the past had matching dresses.
Or, if you have a young boy, you might want to coordinate the colours of your clothing, not necessarily the style. Here’s a great example.
Your outfits don’t have to match or be overly coordinated! Just ensure that you all wear something that feels appropriate and comfortable to you.
