Those childhood years go by so fast, and between all the hustle and bustle of modern life, it can be a challenge to feel present throughout it all.
The thought of ‘not missing a moment’ may seem overwhelming, but thankfully in this age, we’ve got a load of tools at our disposal (thanks, Apple) to help us capture those everyday moments in a quick & easy way.
We thought we’d share some things to think about when taking photos of your children.
Whether you’re capturing everyday moments on your camera at home or visiting us at the photography studio, here are some tips we hope will help you out!
Tips on what to think about when taking photographs of your child
1. Don’t worry about the “cheese”!
Even very young children say “CHEESE” when they see a camera, but this isn’t necessary! We want to capture your little one exactly as they are, in the moment. No forced expressions here!
It’s all about those little giggles and bright eyes and capturing moments of pure magic in beautiful photographs that you’ll cherish for years to come.
2. Those curious expressions and bursts of laughter make for some of the best pictures!
The incredible thing about a photograph is the ability to capture a moment in time.
As they grow older, you’ll be able to look back on all of the images of your child over the years and reminisce about what they were like at each age.
Photography is an amazing way to preserve these precious family memories, and you’ll want to make sure you’ve got a load of images to help you remember those amazing childhood years.
3. Get in the photographs yourself!
This is something many parents, unfortunately, don’t consider until it’s too late. If you’re always taking the photographs, that means you’re never IN them!!
Maybe you feel a bit unsure, or slightly uncomfortable in front of the camera. That’s totally understandable! But when you’re child grows up, they’ll be so grateful to see you in the photographs.
At Kingshill Studios, we’ve got plenty of experience dealing with camera-shy visitors, from little tots to parents and grandparents! Trust us when we say that we want your time in the studio to be enjoyable for the whole family – we want you to have fun!
When you’re having family photographs taken, the best thing to do is simply relax into the moment, and enjoy this special time with your nearest and dearest.
Don’t feel like you have to perform in front of the camera – it’s all about capturing you just the way you are.
4. There’s no such thing as too many photographs!!
Parents with slightly older children will know all too well how quickly those priceless childhood years pass by. They’ll be gone before you know it, so it’s important to try and document as much of that period as you can.
Thankfully, nowadays most phones come with pretty decent cameras that are absolutely perfect for the day-to-day.
Out getting ice cream? Photograph it. Playing in the garden? Photograph it. As ordinary and uneventful as these things might seem at times, these moments don’t last forever, and as years go by the memories you have from these times will seem more precious than gold.
Documenting your child’s life in photographs is the best way to preserve these memories.
For those special milestones, we have a range of packages on offer to help you celebrate each stage of your little one’s life. If you want to learn more, get in touch.
5. Share your photographs!
Although not without many drawbacks, social media is a great tool to help us feel more connected.
If you’re not a fan of social media, why not create a family group chat of some form instead? Whether you use text or email, this can be a great way to share updates with your loved ones in a more private setting.
No matter what method you use, sharing your photographs in little updates is a lovely way to store those amazing family memories.
