We thought we’d share some tips about how to prepare for an outdoor portrait session since the warmer months give us the best chance of making use of our outdoor space here at Kingshill Studios.
OK, summer in Scotland isn’t always warm, but we do tend to get longer days and see a (very) slight increase in temperatures. Plus, if we’re lucky, a little bit less rain!
OUTDOOR-ONLY PORTRAIT SESSIONS
We are delighted to announce that the studio is now offering OUTDOOR-ONLY PORTRAIT SESSIONS.
Don’t miss those precious moments - nothing is more important than family. Here at Kingshill Studios, we have the most beautiful outdoor space, which will allow for a gorgeous gallery of images to be created. You’ll cherish these forever.
All of the digital portraits (around 30-40) will be sent by WeTransfer as high resolution images (ideal for printing, enlarging and sharing) for £495. A deposit of £100 is taken at the time of booking, and the balance is payable on the day.
How to prepare for your outdoor portrait session
1. Bring the whole family
Making use of our outdoor space means we’ve got plenty of room for the whole family to come along. Being outdoors means little ones have got the space to relax into the session, even if they’re not very comfortable in front of a camera.
Four-legged family members are also welcome to your session! We’ve got plenty of experience photographing pets, so there’s no reason that these special family members should have to miss out on all the fun!
When you first get in touch to arrange your session, we’ll make sure to run through the whole process with you. This helps us get an idea of what you’re looking for from your outdoor portrait session.
2. Plan your outfits
Although we always hope that the weather's on our side on the day of your session, in northeast Scotland it’s always best to plan ahead! It’s a good idea to bring along an extra layer or two just in case.
When you’re thinking about what you’re going to wear on the day, keep things simple. Stick to neutral colours - nothing too bright or too dark - and go for something you feel comfortable in. It’s also important to make sure the whole family is coordinated. Planning out your outfits in advance will ensure the colours of your clothing are complementary.

3. Think about where you want to display your wall art
Before your session, it’s a good idea to think about where in your home you want to display your photographs. Are there any extended family members or friends who would like a printed portrait of your family to display in their homes?
