On a visit to Edinburgh, you can expect to find postcard-worthy spots around every corner.
From the picturesque streets of the historic Old Town to the luscious greenery of the city’s many parks, there’s plenty to see and do for the whole family.
Recently, I was fortunate enough to visit Edinburgh for a training day, and was reminded of just how beautiful the city is. Thank you so much to Emma Renée for the beautiful images!
So this week, I thought I’d share some of the most beautiful and best places to visit in Edinburgh with you all. Make sure to pay a visit to some of these places on your next visit to the city!
Best places to visit in Edinburgh
1. Circus Lane
The unique stable doors and beautiful greenery lining the street make Circus Lane a must-see while you’re in the city.
2. Grassmarket
Edinburgh old town is filled with quaint cobbled streets that serve as the perfect backdrop for your photographs.
On a typical day, the restaurants and bars that line the Grassmarket are packed with locals & visitors alike, and it’s the perfect place for a stroll.
3. Dean Village
A walk through Dean Village almost feels like you’re stepping back in time.
It’s worth taking the time to admire the beautiful architecture of this picturesque pocket of the city.
4. Princes Street Gardens
Right in the centre of town, Princes Street Gardens is a great place to visit on a nice day. You can enjoy great views of the castle and find a quiet spot to enjoy a quick break from the busyness of the city.
The colourful gardens look beautiful year-round!
5. Victoria Street
The multi-coloured buildings that line the curved bow of Victoria Street are a must-see.
There are plenty of locally-owned cafes and stores to peruse on your way up the hill while you admire this beautiful street.
It’s tucked away in the perfect spot between the Grassmarket and The Royal Mile, so make sure to stop by when you’re in the Old Town area.
6. The Royal Mile
A stop on the Royal Mile is essential when you’re visiting the city! For me, this is one of the best places to visit in Edinburgh!
This iconic street is packed with historical buildings, local shops and museums waiting to be explored.
At the top, you’ll find Castle Hill, and you can enjoy great views over the city from the esplanade. Down the bottom is the Parliament, along with the beautiful Holyrood Park.
7. Water of Leith
During a stroll along the Water of Leith walkway, it’s hard to believe you’re still in the city centre.
One of the most popular sights here is St Bernard’s Well (pictured below), just a short walk from Dean Village.
A walk along the Water of Leith is perfect for anyone looking to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature.
8. The New Town
The New Town offers a contrast to the narrow alleyways and medieval architecture of the Old Town. Here, you’ll find wide streets and beautifully preserved Georgian townhouses.
Popular spots such as George Street are lined with gorgeous buildings that have been converted into restaurants and shops.
It’s worth taking the time to wander around this area, admiring the epic doorways and grand colonnades that line these streets.
